Mt Teide is an impressive sight, which dominates the skyline over the North of the island. El Teide, with a height of 3,718 metres above sea level, is the highest mountain in Spain. It is the third largest volcano on earth.
There is a daily bus from Puerto de la Cruz, which takes you up the mountain with its winding roads and magnificent views. The landscape changes from lush green pine forests to a barren lunar type landscape, which was part of the location for the film Star Wars. The bus can drop you off at the cable cars, which in turn take you up to "El Pico Teide". However, the cable car does not take you to the summit. To climb the remaining 200mtrs you will need a permit. Rides to the summit in cable car from the La Rambleta cable car station start at 9 a.m. and finish at 4 p.m., unless weather conditions or high winds make it impossible Book the Mount Teide and Las Cañadas National Park Tour
